On November 23th Wizards of the Coast announced the new expansion to it’s Magic the Gathering: Planchase product line. Planescape 2012 Edition bring new cards and even new mechanics to the game.
Yesterday, Wizards of the Coast announced a new product for Magic the Gathering, Planechase 2012 Edition. At the summer of 2012 we could visit new planes, why some old favorites makes a new appearance.
Back in 2009 Planechase made it’s first appearance on gaming tables all around the world. It made possible a very variable gaming experience, mostly suited toward casual multiplayer play by enabling the players to travel between planes, and therefore receive random effects and abilities tied to the place.
Due to it’s success, it’s not surprising that Wizards of the Coast revisits the idea, and they release a new edition. Planechase 2012 will include for new decks (Chaos Reigns, Night of the Ninja, Primordial Hunger, and Savage Auras), containing eight new plane cards, two new oversized phenomenon cards, and an assortment of eternal-legal Magic cards. There are no plane cards or phenomenon cards shared between decks, so it mean 32 new planes and 8 phenomena.
The phenomenon cards are a new concept to Planechase, representing different perils that endanger planeswalkers between the planes. It seem these will be shuffled with the planes-deck, and they are instant effects affecting the game.
The standard-sized magic cards will include brand-new eternal-legal cards, including a cycle of multi-color legendary creatures. Overall there will be 21 new cards in the set, from what 6 will appear in each deck in different quantities.
Each box will contain 10 over-sized cards (8 plane, 2 phenomena), a 60 card Magic deck, and a planar die. The cost for each deck will be $19,99.
Planechase 2012 Edition comes out on June 1, 2012
