Today Paizo launched their annual RPG design competition for the Pathfinder roleplaying-game, RPG Superstar 2012 open for all applicants. During it’s five rounds, participants should be able to present abilities in several different aspects of game design.

The competiton have 5 rounds, all with a completely different task at hand. The first round, which is about creating an unique wondrous item is already started.

The prizes are really good, and could appeal many roleplayers out there ! The winner will receive a contract from Paizo to write a Pathfinder Module to be published, while finalists receive a contract to create a Pathfinder Society Scenario, a downloadable adventure sanctioned for play in Paizo’s worldwide Pathfinder Society campaign.

Paizo also plan to include several wondrous items from this year top 32 into the Ultimate Equipment Pathfinder RPG hardcover in 2012, which will also include selected favorites from previous years.

Since the first round is already started, it’s maybe good to collect the rules and recommendations for entering the contest. First, I recommend the rules for the first round very carefully here.

However, there are multiple useful articles to read, if you want to increase your chance to win !

– first I recommend to read Sean K. Reynolds consolidated advice thread about wondrous items here. You should check all of his hints to avoid certain design pitfalls

– You may also check last year’s top 32 items to get some inspiration, and to see what’s good enough to be an RPG Superstar

– If you have a lots of free time, you may also check out while different designs were rejected last year, here.

For additional information you should check Paizo’s RPG Superstar 2012 page.
