Gen Con: Third Day

Yesterday was a long day. I think we didn’t return to Zach’s house before midnight, but, guys, we had a lot fun. Richard Iorio planned to run a game of Shadow, Swords and Spell for us, but he wasn’t feeling that well, so Zachary stepped in and prepared something in just 45 minutes. But even though he had only that much time to think about and …

GenCon 2010 – Day 3 Ennies and Such

My third day in Indianapolis dawned…. well, I’m sure that it did dawn, but unlike when I went to Origins, I am getting a lot more sleep here. Not sure if that means I’m doing this right, or doing it wrong, but I feel better. Anyway, I got up at around 8:30, which was nice, and walked over to the Convention Center. The Morning The morning was an…

GenCon 2010 – Day 2 (What everyone else is calling Day 1)

Yeah,, I guess I started my day count a little early since  technically the convention didn’t start until yesterday. So, if you’re trying to keep score at home, yesterday was the official first day of the convention, but since it was my second day onsite, I’m going to stick with the date that brought me to the dance. So yesterday was my Day 2, and…

Magical Rainbow

Magical Rainbow by Crossen Creations is a something like Candy Land: a spinner, move to the first occurrence of that color, first to reach the end of the path wins. It differs from Candy Land in a few ways: The board and pieces are magnetic. A leprechaun moves around the board as you do, occasionally dragging you off to some corner of the …

GenCon 2010 – Day 1

Well, I arrived safe and sound in heat wave that is Indianapolis. I found my hotel with no problem, met one of my two roommates, railed in vain against the amount that the hotel charges for parking, and then walked my way over to the Indiana Convention Center to find out what this GenCon thing was all about. So, far, it has been…

Perfect Stride , by Jeff Timothy and Kay Darby of sggc Funleague, is another horse-related card game for girls. This one is about horses jumping, where skills you bring to the event must overcome the challenges and random occurrences that may thwart you. Why do I say it is for girls? As usual, I’m skipping the card shufflers and dealers … Auto racing board game – By Carrie Moats. A roll and move game. Carrie claims her design is patent-worthy because, unlike previous auto-racing games, a) hers is re-playable, and b) it doesn’t come with cars, so it costs less and lets you use your own. Suit variable mahjong tile and a mahjong …

A few weeks ago, out of the blue, I got an email from Alderac Entertainment Group. Their new edition of the Legend of the Five Rings RPG was out and they asked if I wanted to review the book. I jumped at the chance! After spending over two years in Cauldron and then the last half year in The Black , I’m eager to visit…

Pulling That Lever: The Selection Of Leaders In RPG Societies

Nobles from ancient Mede Okay, so for the first time since we started this online magazine/blog, one of us has missed getting a post up. Johnn struck problems with his planned post at the last possible moment, and then tried to rewrite it but missed the deadline; thought that he would be able to get it up a day late, …

Character Death, woe or wow?

Last night I played a particularly long session of my weekly Pathfinder RPG game. During this game I killed a player character. Well that’s not quiet accurate. I wasn’t gunning out for him; it was a mixture of chance and strategy.  Scar, the half-orc dragon blooded sorcerer rolled a 1 on his saving throw and died from the maximized Acid Ball (the enemy wizard’s version of Fireball). This …

The status of the Aruneus Project – making a 100 page zombie apocalypse source book for the Pathfinder RPG system

Last December I sat down with a good friend and we talked a bit about what a standard high fantasy world would be like if a worldwide zombie apocalypse were to happen to it.  What would happen to the various nations, empires and races?  Who would be affected most?   How would it change the political structure, the formation of cities, or just …

Sci-Fi Setting, looking for some feedback…

Unlike some of my fellow writers here in Stargazer’s World I haven’t tried my hand at designing an RPG for some years now. I must admit that meeting so many great and creative people in this community has gotten my creative juices flowing and I may just try my hand at game design in the near future. One thing I do a…
