Did you ever play Munchkin and wish it were a LARP? If so, you’re in luck; I know some fine doctors who can help you. While you’re waiting for their call, if you’re in the vicinity of Birmingham at the beginning of June, head on down to the UK Games Expo 2011 and play “ Living Munchkin “. Let us consider, for a moment, the full…

Exciting Alternity news!

We’ve been sitting on this for a couple of weeks, dying to share it with our readers, but we couldn’t until all the details were worked out. Now that all that is taken care off we can share some exciting news… Here is the press release going out to gaming magazines (the two left) and gaming blogs later today.

New Wizard of Oz Card Games

I’ve been in contact since October with a sggc called Orion’s Bell . They have been working on a CCG based on The Wizard of Oz for over seven years now. They have a ton of great artwork for over 300 cards and a complete set of rules. I don’t know what the heck is taking them so long. …

Clang! Crash! Pow! Game Mastering The Pulp Genre

If all has gone according to plan, you are now looking at the final part of what’s been a massive series on the Pulp Genre. This article is mostly afterthoughts and GM advice that I’ve culled from many discussions with players and with my co-GM, Blair Ramage, together with some stuff straight from my own head. It’s a cleanup article, let&#…

A font by any other name…

I don’t know about you, but I love collecting them. Ever since I got my first word processor I cherished the possibility of changing the font depending on the purpose of the document I was writing. For a big period in my gaming life one of the things I enjoyed the most was creating character sheets for the games I was playing, (this was in that…

Super Heat, Skateboard TCG

Super Heat is a skateboarding TCG from sggc Super Heat Games, which is a division of Ahead of the Game, Inc. (actually, AotG doesn’t seem to exist, just yet). The game is played in two heats, each of which requires you to play the most points by matching lines on the cards. You can play danger cards on your opponent. I can’t tell you much more, because…

March Board and Card Game Patents

Board game – The game “Enlightenment” by Norman Vail. Chakras, deadly sins, and spiritual enlightenment, etc. Funny, but to me the game looks a lot like Hustler’s adult 7 Deadly Sins game, whose object is not enlightenment. Next we have seven design patents for card game tables from Marcus Katz: -1- -2- -3- -4- -5- -6- -7- Yes, 7 complete design patents, thousands of dollars each, for tables that, to the untrained eye, all…

Untold: The Game – a review of this nifty CBRPG

Welcome to Untold – a traditional RPG that uses the non-traditional mechanic of cards to facilitate game play, and does it well. A few weeks ago I was offered a chance to review Untold: Splintered Serenity.  This CBRPG (Card Based Role Playing Game) by Ignitus Innovation boils down all of the books, rules and character sheets into a series of…

AD&D Monster Manual part 30

Lurker Above: This monster, sort of like a manta ray that clings to the roof of a dungeon and drops on the heads of adventurers, first appeared in The Strategic Review #3. Gary must have been very happy with this one, because the only change to it is that it is now better at gaining surprise. Lycanthropes: Lycanthropes first appeared in OD&D Vol. 2 , and…

All that, plus…well, just that really. Show Links: The Purple Pawn – www.purplepawn.com Next Show: April 10th – Ben attempts to …

Review: Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Player’s Guide

I haven’t been aware of the WHFRP Player’s Guide until I got a coupon code for a review copy in my email inbox. But I have to admit it was a pleasant surprise. Even though I changed my stance on the latest iteration of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay there where still a few things that irked me. The new Player’s Guide remedies a lot of the issues I had with …
