Wiggity Bang, publishers of Quelf , will release Furt in May; you can get a sneak peak at the NY Toy Fair this week. Furt is designed by Matthew Rivaldi. Pick a card and do something silly. The silliness comes in six categories, plus some bonus silliness at certain spots. For some reason, the ultimate space on the board’s path is an …

Green Lantern: Power of the Ring

Warner Bros and Pressman Toy will be bringing you the board game Green Lantern: Power of the Ring, in anticipation of the 2011 summer movie. And you know it’s going to be a good game because the press release uses words like franchise, property, licenses, products, brands, campaign, and push marketing. If you can’t wait until summer, Pressman already has a few…

Nightfall: The New Game From Alderac Enertainment Group

Our friends from Alderac sent a new game for review. It’s called Nightfall and it reminds me of nothing so much as a board game in compact size. The story premise is that the sun is gone and permanent night has fallen on earth. The world has become a playground for the dark creatures of our imaginations. Ghouls, vampires and werewolves battle each other and the human …

Dragon Chow Dice Bags revisited – a review of the best damn dice bag I’ve ever owned.

I almost hate to admit it, but my Crown Royal bag, after 20 loyal years since being liberated from my Mom’s top cabinet shelf,  has just been retired.  There’s a new bag in town, and it’s from Dragon Chow Dice Bags . Disclaimer: Dragon Chow Dice Bags advertise on this very site.  However, I paid for my bag, …

School of Hard Knocks Session #1 (The Bridge Troll)

The basic premise of our game is that the characters are all students at a private international/boarding school located in Kaiserswerth, which is a small suburb of Düsseldorf, Germany. The characters are all members of the school’s “Journalism Club” which is really a cover for a supernatural investigation team headed by a hedge wizard named Theobald Mack. The game very much inspired by Buffy…

Identity Pursuit

Identity Pursuit is a game and “intuitive tool” for self-discovery. It’s designed to help players discover the patterns of personality in themselves and others—what author Caroline Myss refers to in her book Sacred Contracts as “archetypes.” Gameplay involves discussing questions found on archetype cards and choosing the answer that best fits the drawing player.

Okay, so actually, it’s…

Mi Gato se Incendia! (My Cat is on Fire!) A new board game by Benjamin Gerber

Six years ago I started playing around with a neat board game idea. It was based around cats.  And fire.  More specifically, it was based around a cat on fire.  As morbid as this may sound, I assure you, no cats were harmed in the making of this game.  I love cats. I own four.  But I also know…

School of Hard Knocks – Meet the Cast (Dresden Files)

I spent some time tonight finding a few photos to match up with the important faces in our DFRPG game – I like the idea of showing the players a picture of each NPC as they are introduced to give them both a visual hook and bring them to life. My plan is to print these out as snapshots and attach them to a card associated with…

Rap Battles, the Game

Rap Battles from Spinning Hat is a game of competitive improvisational rap. The game comes with a faux boombox, some dice to select the beat, some cards whose purpose is indecipherable to me, and some money to keep score. You have twenty seconds to rap to the beat, after which you are judged by your fellow players and/or the judge. ( source )

Second Look: 1955: The War of Espionage

I received a prototype review copy of 1955: The War of Espionage , which was designed by Kevin Nunn, from Nicholas Vitek at Living World Games. 1995 underwent a successful funding campaign on KickStarter. Living World Games is also an advertiser on Purple Pawn. 1955 is a two-player tactics card game. The board consists of six tracks representing countries. The allegiance marker on each country’s track indicates its …
