Demons for Legend – Arachnodemon and Imp

Hi Legend players !    This is my second article about summon-able monsters for the Legend RPG, using the rules in Arcania of Legend : Blood Magic. After my last article featuring the Succubus and Incubus, I decided that now I will create some much more combat oriented monster, and another one, which is something smaller and easier… Read More »

Demons for Legend – Succubus and Incubus

Hi Legend players !    Since I reviewed Arcania of Legend : Blood Magic I was very intrigued by the summoning rules. I think the potential to include demons, devils and other strange things is great, and must be exploited.    I think to get the intended result the demons and their otherworldly ilk should be not only… Read More »

Another half dozen Legend sample characters !

Hi fellow players,   Based on the responses I received, many people enjoyed my previous half dozen sample characters for the Legend RPG. So I decided to continue the series with another six, bringing up the total number of available characters to a full dozen.   For some time this will be the last batch of playable characters,… Read More »

A half dozen Legend sample characters !

Hi fellow Roleplayers,   As you remember, in the middle of November Mongoose Publishing released Legend, a new roleplaying game we already reviewed. I instantly became a fan, and after some playtesting I decided to provide some additional material to my fellow players, as well as my own players.   What do I mean ? Well I intend… Read More »

Resource Chest : Gnolls, elves and maps !

There are many times, when a Game Master need some extra material, which is not included in the sourcebooks he has. Maybe he needs a complete village as a setting for his campaign, maybe some NPC ideas, or some background to take his campaign to a higher level. Or maybe some softwares to make Game Mastering much easier.… Read More »

Crossroads, A Co-op Christian Strategy Game

Crossroads is a cooperative strategy battle tile game (played on a grid) from sggc Crossroad Games , designed by Michael Brown ( Anachronism ). Coming soon. Roll the dice, lay tiles, move your disk. Face the challenge card with your stats, resources, prayers, and more dice. While purportedly promoting the Christian narrative, I’m wondering how they handle, say, Deborah and Barak losing after…

Alien Frontiers

Alien Frontiers from Tory Niemann and Clever Mojo Games [1] is a space-themed area control/placement/resource management game (if that makes you think Euro game, you’re spot on). Your ships are actually dice that you first roll and then assign to collect or utilize different resources each turn. The game takes about an hour and is for 2-4 players, though 3 or 4 are recommended. AF was…

Pathfinder RPG Goodies: Venture Captain

As a confessed Pathfinderite (I don’t see that moniker catching on!) I am always on the lookout for new tools, ideas and goodies for my favorite fantasy RPG. Today while casually reading the tweet feed I discovered Venture Captain . It’s a site containing online tools for the Pathfinder RPG . The banner tells you right away it’s a beta version of the site…

Ohio Society of CPAs: The F.E.T.C.H. Game

The Ohio Society of CPAs developed the game Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits to teach kids financial literacy. The board game has some kind of dog theme. In November, 1,200 volunteers ran session for over 10,000 children in elementary schools across Ohio. Source has a promo video as well as a twenty minute facilitator instruction video, with annoying background music looped over the whole thing.

A Whole New World – Characteristics of Golarion

Yesterday I announced the beginning of my article series on Golarion, the default campaign setting for Pathfinder. I promised that today I would look into the characteristics of Golarion as a setting and I am here to fulfill that promise. So, without further ado, let’s get right to it. High Magic The first thing to know about Golarion is that it, for the most…

First Look: Apocalypse Prevention Inc.

While Third Eye Games’ API has been around for quite a while I just recently had the change to have a closer look at this fine game. While most roleplaying game take themselves quite seriously, API was definitely written tongue in cheek. That’s something you don’t see that often nowadays and in most cases it doesn’t actually work. Luckily API is the laudable exception…

How to Succeed or Fail on Kickstarter

I post a compilation of Kickstarter [1] tabletop game projects (RPG, board, card) on Purple Pawn each week. I’ve been tracking tabletop game projects on KS pretty much since there have been tabletop game projects on KS. Something like half of KS tabletop game projects get funded. Why? What are they doing right? What did the ones that fail do…

A follow-up for my Montsegur 1244 review

I failed to mention that Thoughtful Games, the game’s publisher, has also recently put out a free expansion to the game which adds more character, scene, and story cards. You can find out more information here.

It’s Reality, Jim, but not As We Know It: St Barbara

Two of the most important skills that I added to the Hero System when I was writing my House Rules for my Champions campaign were Paranormal Physics and Paranormal Biology . The first explains how powers work using game physics – and therefore can also be used to determine potentials that the character had not thought of, and training methods to bring them out. It can also be…

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game: The Review

Back in 1998 I was just beginning high school (my apologies to any of you who now feel particularly old), and a friend of mine introduced me to this crazy little CCG called Middle Earth: The Wizards by the sadly fading Iron Crown Enterprises . I was well-versed in collectible card games at this point in time; I’d been playing Magic: The Gathering since the Revised Edition, …

City Government Power Bases – Religion

What forces govern your city? Religion, spirituality, and ideology make excellent government power bases because they are powerful sources of influence, prestige, and affiliation. Religion and cosmology varies from campaign to campaign, but it’s likely gods do exist in your world and they imbue certain, devout followers with spells and special powers every day. Even if your current campaign has …

City Government Power Bases – Magic and Psionics

What forces govern your city? We resume the city design series this week with thoughts about how to use magic and psionics to build interesting city government power bases. For the purposes of this article, magic and psionics are treated the same. Your game system might make this thinking incompatible, but hopefully you can take the thinking that follows and apply…
